To Botox or not to Botox??

This is a very personal decision.

Akin, in fact, to dying your hair, eating  junk food or not exercising.

All choices can have side effects. Talking with your doctor is the first step. Evaluating time, expense and lifestyle is also important. However you should be aware that the effects of Botox® are temporary and need to be repeated at regular intervals for continued effect.

Why Botox®?

Botox® treatments can help reduce wrinkles of the forehead, frown lines and crows feet by immobilizing the muscles that cause them.

Is it safe?

Botox®has been in use for over 20 years now and was approved for cosmetic use in the United States in 2002.

Botox Cosmetic® has been the most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatment for the last several years running. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, there were 5.7 million treatments of Botox Cosmetic® performed in 2011 alone.

How long does each treatment last?

Botox® treatments take less than 20 minutes and allow you to return to normal daily activities immediately, just no working out for four hours after. You will start to notice results a few days after the treatment but it takes two weeks for the full effects to be seen. Patients can expect treatment results to last for three to four months.Joyous Skin Care & Sunless Tanning, Granby, Winter Park, CO, Colorado, botox

What is Botox®?

Botox® is a trade name for botulinum toxin A.

In this way, Botox® is related to botulism. Botulism is a form of food poisoning that occurs when someone eats something containing a neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. Botulinum toxin A is one of the neurotoxins produced by Clostridium botulinum.

How does it work?

It paralyzes muscles.

With muscle paralysis in one area, the muscles in an adjacent area are required to take over.

Botox® is used to treat a number of different issues. Cosmetically, frown lines, droopy eye lids and crows feet around the eyes (Dermal Fillers are more often used for areas around the mouth and nose).

Other conditions successfully treated by botulinum toxin A involve muscle spasms, blepharospasm, cervical dytonia, dystonia and migraines.
